Piercing of the nostril is once again steeped in history, having been performed in Africa and Indian cultures for centuries. Piercing is performed through the cartilage tissue and care must be given as to the placement. A large selection of jewellery can be worn but a larger piercing will leave substantial scarring and this must be taken into account when selecting jewellery. Nostril screws in 18ct gold, Titanium or Surgical Stainless Steel or rings in the same material can be worn. Healing is rapid but the inner tissue tends to close quickly on even a moderately to well healed piercing. Once healed completely though, jewellery can be removed for lengthy periods.
